The 2011 Eastern Conference is really expected to be just a three horse race. However, that being said, the Atlanta Hawks are hoping to spoil in party on the NBA Finals odds over the course of the next two weeks, as they take on the top seed in the conference, the Chicago Bulls.

How the Hawks Can Win This Series
Atlanta really did everything in its power to make sure that it beat the Orlando Magic and avenged last year’s loss in the first round of the postseason by a whopping 111 points in four games. Unfortunately for the Hawks, that series went six games and looked like it took a boatload out of them. It’s going to take an even bigger effort with even fewer mistakes and even more luck to be able to take care of the Bulls, and it’s a real question whether any of that is even remotely possible.

Atlanta really shot the rock well over the course of that series against the Magic, at least relatively speaking to what Orlando was capable of. The five main players in the rotation all scored at least 10 points per game for the Hawks, led by the 20.5 points per game of Jamal Crawford off of the bench. Joe Johnson knocked down 18.0 points per game, while Josh Smith and Al Horford combined for 26.3 points and 18.4 rebounds per game between them.

The big concern right now is the health of Kirk Hinrich. Hinrich is really the team’s only point guard, and his hamstring injury suffered in Game 6 against Orlando really couldn’t have been more ill timed for the Hawks. If he can’t go (and he’s not expected to in Game 1), there is going to be a lot of pressure on a lot of different men to handle the basketball, and that might even including seeing more of Crawford or Johnson running the point position, something that really can’t be sitting well with Head Coach Larry Drew coming into this series.

How the Bulls Can Win This Series
The Bulls are the bigger, badder team in this series, and they certainly have all of the intangibles that you are looking for in a team to put away an iffy squad like the Hawks. Chicago didn’t really play at its best at any point in this first round series against the Indiana Pacers, but getting the job done in five games was certainly good enough for the fans in the Windy City.

The question mark again is health, but in this case, though the star is bigger, the effect on the team might not be as bad. It’s not like Chicago didn’t have to play half of the season without Carlos Boozer in the lineup anyway, so the team knows what it is like to be without one of its stars. Boozer is nursing a turf toe, and he really didn’t play all that well in the opening round series against the Pacers anyway. Like we said, there are plenty of other bigs like Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, and the likes that can pick up the slack offensive and on the glass, and the truth of the matter is that Atlanta really doesn’t have the bigs to worry us all that much even in Boozer does miss any time with this injury.

Oh, and have we forgotten to mention the league’s soon to be MVP, Derrick Rose? Rose really took over the entire series against the Pacers at times, single handedly winning Games 1 and 2. He averaged 27.6 points, 6.0 assists, 4.6 boards, 2.6 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game in the first round, clearly making him the MVP of that series as well. Again, especially if Hinrich doesn’t play, Rose has an absolutely tremendous advantage at the point guard spot in this series.

The Last Word – Atlanta is just out of gas in this one. If the Hawks even win a game in this series, it should be considered a triumph. We know that it won the first meeting of these two teams this year, but when push came to shove, the Bulls posted a brutal blow out in the last two meetings. Expect to see a very, very lopsided series in the end. NBA Playoffs Picks: Bulls in 4

NBA Matchup: Chicago Bulls @ Indiana Pacers
Game Date/Time: Thursday, April 21, 2011 @ 7:05 ET
Location: Conseco Fieldhouse- Indianapolis, Indiana

NBA Odds: Chicago Bulls -4.5
Over/Under Odds: 189

Game Analysis: The Pacers have stayed closer then expected in both of the first two games in this series. They covered the spread in both games one and two with game one going over the posted total and game two staying under the total. The Bulls find themselves favored by 4.5 points for game three on the road with a total of 189. I fully realize Indiana has looked good in the first two games of this series, however the Bulls have been able to hold serve at home and can look to put the hammer down on this series with a win on the road in game three. Chicago has played at Indian twice this season winning 99-86 in January and losing 115-108 in March. Their effort on defense in the January win was the difference and I am looking for a big defensive effort from the Bulls in Indiana for game three. The Bulls know from their loss in March that an up and down type of game with Indiana is not putting their best foot forward. The Pacers have played excellent defense on the Bulls in the first two games forcing Derrick Rose to use some of his MVP magic to will Chicago to wins. I am expecting another great defensive game from Indiana and if they can force Rose’s teammates to be the ones who beat them they might be able to get the win at home as an underdog. I am more interested in the total in this game which is posted at 189. I am picking under 189 in this game as this series has been dominated by defense thus far and the change in venue to Conseco Fieldhouse won’t change that a bit. This may be the lowest scoring of the first three games as both teams have a good idea by now what the other wants to do and how to stop it. Look for a game played below 90 points by both teams as the Pacers will fight to keep it close at home and avoid a 3-0 deficit.

The NBA Playoffs start Saturday and we here at Cappersinfo want to keep you supplied with the best in NBA handicapping along with some winning free NBA playoff picks and other selections everyday.  Four playoff series start Saturday and another four more start Sunday as the NBA Playoffs kick into gear.  Here are two free picks are for Saturday from Andy “The Raven” Frank.

Matchup: Indiana Pacers at Chicago Bulls
Date: Saturday, April 16th, 1:05 ET
Location: The United Center- Chicago, Illinois
NBA Odds: Chicago -11.5
Over/Under Odds: 188.5

Game Analysis: This is the first game of the Chicago-Indiana series and an important measuring stick of what we can expect from the Bulls in the playoffs.  Defense has gotten them to the number one seed which is a place no one really expected the Bulls to be even considered for in the East.  On the season they allowed just 91.3 PPG, and only 89.8 PPG at home.  Furthermore in division games not only were they 15-1 but they allowed just 86.3 PPG.  Down the stretch in their last 14 games they allowed just one 100 point game.  It is clear that team defense that has carried the Bulls to this point.  They won 3 of 4 meetings with the Pacers earlier this year and I expect game 1 of the series to be a similar to how the regular season has gone this year for the Bulls.  They will control tempo and play their brand of basketball which has worked very well for them.  The Pacers do not like to play a slow tempo game and would prefer to score as many points in the transition game as possible.  That won’t available much due to that being the Bulls strong suit keeping teams from getting out in the transition.  They rebound extremely well and should have no trouble controlling the pace in game 1.  The Pacers often are frustrated when forced to play in a half court tempo game and should find out Saturday afternoon why the team defense the Bulls play make them a threat to win it all.  I am not looking to lay as many points as Chicago is favored by as it seems to be too many.  However I am very interested in the total in this game which is set at 188.5.  I like a play on under 188.5 in this game with the Bulls winning fairly comfortably.

Free NBA Playoff Pick: UNDER 188.5

Matchup: Atlanta Hawks at Orlando Magic
Date: Saturday, April 16th, 7:05 ET
Location: The Amway Center- Orlando, Florida
NBA Odds : Orlando -8.5
Over/Under Odds: 179.5

Game Analysis: This is a rematch from last year’s conference semi-finals.  That series last year was historic, Orlando destroyed Atlanta in their four game sweep by more points then any other playoff team in NBA history had ever been beaten by.  The 101 point differential in a four game sweep last year was not only an NBA record but cost Hawks former coach Mike Woodson his job.  This year the same two teams meet in round one of the playoffs, however I don’t think we will be seeing the kind of dominance Orlando showed over Atlanta last year.  In fact this year Atlanta comes into the game holding a 3-1 advantage in head to head meetings.  Atlanta has won the last three times they have played even winning in Orlando by 6.  The Hawks will find it hard to get away from questions about last year and what happened in the series with Orlando.  The fact is this is a different year and completely different circumstances lead both teams to this point.  Orlando is not in a position of strength this year and has to face a revenge minded Hawks team who won’t forget the beating they received last year.  Atlanta has to placing a lot of importance on game 1 and feeling as if they can’t afford to get behind again against this Magic team.  The line is a very fair 8.5 points, and I really like the Hawks to get the money with the points.  I would not be surprised at all if Atlanta won the game outright.  Rarely in the NBA is revenge a factor, however for Atlanta losing in the semis last year by historic proportions has to be more then enough motivation to not only keep game 1 close but to keep this entire series close.  Take the points in game 1.

It’s another big time Sunday for NBA betting battles, and our expert NBA handicappers offer up their free basketball picks for the biggest game on a huge slate of clashes!

NBA Matchup: Chicago Bulls @ Miami Heat
Date: Sunday, March 6th, 1:00 ET
Location: American Airlines Arena, Miami, FL
NBA Odds: Miami -5
Over/Under (Total): 188

The Heat are in bad shape right now, as they have been outscored by a whopping 51 points in their last three halves of basketball. Needless to say, regardless of who you’re playing, that’s not going to get the job done. Miami has been wildly inconsistent this season at home, going just 11-18 ATS over the course of its 29 games played here in South Beach. However, this is the back end of a brutal road trip for the Bulls after beating the Orlando Magic at the Amway Center on Friday night. Sure, Chicago has an incredibly deep team, but Miami just matches up particularly well against this team for whatever reason. Go with LeBron, D-Wade, and company to take care of the NBA odds in this one, as the good run of play for the Bulls will go by the boards. NBA Free Pick: Miami Heat

NBA Matchup: Los Angeles Lakers @ San Antonio Spurs
Date: Sunday, March 6th, 3:30 ET
Location: AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX
NBA Odds: San Antonio -2.5
Over/Under (Total): 191

If the Spurs were out to make a big time statement on Friday night, that’s exactly what they did when they obliterated the Miami Heat by a whopping 30 points at home. The defense was just locked in, and the lack of depth on the Heat just wasn’t able to keep up with the run and gun style of offense that Head Coach Gregg Popovich is now bringing to the table. Will it keep up against the Lakers? Kobe Bryant and company had better hope not, especially if Derek Fisher is going to be held out of the fold with an elbow injury. There is just so little respect for the Spurs this season, and this is really no exception. Sure, Los Angeles is good, but the time is really going to have to come that the oddsmakers realize that the Spurs really are the best team in the Western Conference, and potentially in the whole NBA. Tony Parker will be back at full strength in this one after getting his feet wet against Miami, and he should help lead this team to a ‘W’ on Sunday. Free NBA Pick: San Antonio Spurs

NBA Matchup: New York Knicks @ Atlanta Hawks
Date: Sunday, March 6th, 6:30 ET
Location: Phillips Arena, Atlanta, GA
NBA Odds: OTB
Over/Under (Total): OTB

Neither the Hawks nor the Knicks really thrill us right now, but health could really be a key factor in this one. We know that Chauncey Billups has been out of the lineup for these last two games with a thigh injury, but he is likely to be back to join the team in the Peach State for this NBA betting affair. However, the Hawks are likely going to be without Josh Smith. It is clear which team made the right moves at the trade deadline and which one probably didn’t, though Kirk Hinrich finally had his first big game with the Hawks in the loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday. The truth of the matter though, is that the combination of Amare Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony, and Billups could easily combine for 75, or even more points in this one, and if that’s what happens, there isn’t a heck of a lot that the rest of this team is going to have to do to make for great NBA picks in this one. Expert NBA Pick: New York Knicks

NBA Matchup: Phoenix Suns @ Oklahoma City Thunder
Date: Sunday, March 6th, 7:00 ET
Location: Ford Center, Oklahoma City, OK
NBA Odds: Oklahoma City -5.5
Over/Under (Total): 212

This game could be significantly closer than the expert NBA handicappers really think. The Suns have been playing great ball of late, and they really probably found a diamond in the rough when they brought in Aaron Brooks to help out as a scorer. It’d be great if Vince Carter would play in this one, and the possibility is still there, but even if he doesn’t, we still tend to believe that Phoenix is the right play. It really just feels like the Thunder are merely trying to hang on until Kendrick Perkins gets into this lineup for the first time, as the truth of the matter is that the only differences between this team now and the one from a few weeks ago is that Nazr Mohammed is in, and both Nenad Krstic and Jeff Green are out. Not exactly a great deal quite yet, and it won’t look all that great on Sunday either. Free Basketball Pick: Phoenix Suns

NBA Matchup: Boston Celtics @ Milwaukee Bucks
Date: Sunday, March 6th, 9:00 ET
Location: Bradley Center, Milwaukee, WI
NBA Odds: Boston -7.5
Over/Under (Total): 182.5

We’ve been talking a lot about injuries in this piece, but we know that there isn’t a team that we feel worse for this season than this one. The Bucks are just all over the board right now, as there aren’t any players that have been in the fold for even 59 of the 60 games this season. Still, grabbing that last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference isn’t totally out of the question, making this one a potential playoff preview. However, Jeff Green has really arrived at this point, and his 21 point effort off of the bench on Friday proved that. The C’s are a dangerous club, and even though they really haven’t turned up the defensive intensity in a few games, they are scoring a ton of late. The Bucks don’t have that inside banger to make up for the lack of bigs that Boston has, and as a result, the visitors should triumph in a big time way in the Bradley Center on Sunday. Free NBA Pick: Boston Celtics

If it's a Thursday night, that means that it's time for NBA betting action once again! This week, in the final two duels before the NBA Trade Deadline, we make our free basketball picks on the clashes between the Miami Heat vs. Chicago Bulls and the Boston Celtics vs. Denver Nuggets.

NBA Matchup: Miami Heat @ Chicago Bulls
Date: Thursday, February 24th, 8:00 ET
Location: United Center, Chicago, IL
NBA Odds: Miami -1
Over/Under (Total): 192

Injuries (or lack thereof) will be playing a key role in this NBA betting battle on Thursday. Joakim Noah should be back in the lineup on Wednesday night against the Toronto Raptors, meaning that this should be the second straight game that he is sharing a lineup with Carlos Boozer, assuming that there are no setbacks on Wednesday night or unexpected trades between now and the 3:00 ET trade deadline. Of course, the Bulls would love to get another game out of Derrick Rose like they got just before the All Star Break, as he put up 42 points on 18-of-28 shooting, while both Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer went absolutely bananas. What we have to remember about Chicago though, is that there is still a huge interest in Courtney Lee, and if a deal gets done, it will likely shorten the bench quite a bit. Miami will certainly be without Mike Miller, who is dealing with an eye injury, though the prospects are there for him to be traded before Thursday's deadline as well. Still, we're talking about LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade, who combined for a whopping 76 points in Miami's last victory before the All Star break. These two teams have combined to win seven games in a row between them, but the Bulls are just doing better right now than the Heat are. Chicago has a win here already this season, a 99-96 triumph on January 15th, and it would love to make a statement in this potential playoff tussle against one of the best teams in the East.NBA Free Pick: Chicago Bulls +1

NBA Matchup: Boston Celtics @ Denver Nuggets
Date: Thursday, February 24th, 10:30 ET
Location: Pepsi Arena, Denver, CO
NBA Odds: Boston -3
Over/Under (Total): 204

This is definitely going to be a new look for the Nuggets on Thursday night, as they will be debuting Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgov, and Wilson Chandler, their new acquisitions in place of the departed Carmelo Anthony . The team did alright even though it was really crippled without any of these players on Tuesday night, coming up with a big win, albeit against the Sacramento Kings. There is a real question about how these pieces to the puzzle are going to gel in Denver, but we tend to believe that transitioning over from the Knicks' up tempo system to this one won't be all that bad. Meanwhile, there is indeed a second team in this game, and it happens to be one of the best teams in the entire league. Boston smacked the Golden State Warriors 115-93 in the first game of the second half of the season, and it hopes that this road trip is one that goes as smoothly throughout as this first battle in Oakland did. Of course, when you get 23 out of Paul Pierce, 24 from Kevin Garnett, 18 from Ray Allen, and 19 from Rajon Rondo, you're going to win a heck of a lot of games. These four make up a cohesive package for certain, but if you're Head Coach George Karl for the Nuggs, this is the game that you can make your big time statement in. Many are just writing Denver out of the postseason right now thanks to this trade, but we're not so sure that that's the case. The Nuggets just might figure out how to pull off the upset in this one. Free NBA Pick: Denver Nuggets +3

If it's a Thursday night, that means that it's time for NBA betting action once again! This week, in the final two duels before the NBA Trade Deadline, we make our free basketball picks on the clashes between the San Antonio Spurs vs. Chicago Bulls and the Dallas Mavericks vs. Phoenix Suns.

NBA Matchup: San Antonio Spurs @ Chicago Bulls
Date: Thursday, February 17th, 8:00 ET
Location: United Center, Chicago, IL
NBA Odds: Chicago -2
Over/Under (Total): 190.5

Call this the Rodney Dangerfield game of the week. After all, in spite of the fact that these two teams are a combined 56 games over .500, they're both getting absolutely no respect! San Antonio is really playing well on this Rodeo Road Trip, and it all closes up after a 6-2 SU and ATS mark in the first nine games with this trip to the Windy City. The Spurs have to be lucky to dodge Joakim Noah in this one, as he is still out for at least this one last game before the All Star Break. If Noah and Carlos Boozer shared the court, Tim Duncan and whomever was in the post with him would really have their work cut out. Duncan can hold his own against Boozer, while Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker should be able to combine forces to outclass Derrick Rose, even though the youngster out of Memphis really has played some great ball of late. Chicago might be 24-4 at home this year, and it might have six straight wins in its back pocket, but San Antonio is 21-7 and certainly isn't one to mess with. This is the type of game that Head Coach Gregg Popovich figures out how to win to help carry his team into the break with some more big time momentum. There's a reason that this team is one of just a handful that has won 46 of its first 55 games and is on a pace for almost 70 wins this season. NBA Free Pick: San Antonio Spurs +2

NBA Matchup: Dallas Mavericks @ Phoenix Suns
Date: Thursday, February 17th, 10:30 ET
Location: US Airways Arena, Phoenix, AZ
NBA Odds: Phoenix -1
Over/Under (Total): 207

Again, we're not so sure why the road team from the Lone Star State isn't favored in this one. Sure, we'll give it up for the Suns. They've really played some tremendously better ball of late than they were playing before the trade with the Orlando Magic. However, it was only four days ago that this team lost at home to the Sacramento Kings. That's right. The Sacramento Freaking Kings. Phoenix just doesn't have the man power to be able to stand up to the mojo of the Mavericks. Here's a great stat for you to share around the bar on Thursday night when you take in this NBA betting affair. In games in which Dirk Nowitzki is in the lineup, Dallas is 36-9 on the campaign, a record that would be the second best in the league if prorated over the first 55 games of the season. Sure, we know that the Mavs are going to have a rough road ahead in this one, knowing that they have to play at home on Wednesday night against those same Sacramento Freaking Kings, but it's not like there is all that much to get ready for beyond this one. Dallas has won five of the last six in this series and has averaged dropping a whopping 113.8 points per game in this stretch against the "defenseless" Suns. If Peja Stojakovic can give the Mavericks anywhere near the 22 he had against the Houston Rockets a few nights ago, this one will be a romp. The wrong team is clearly favored in this one. Free NBA Pick: Dallas Mavericks +1
